Kitchen Reveal

October 23, 2017

Our kitchen is finally done! Well, basically…you get extra points if you can spot things that are unfinished. Hehe. I feel like we are still going one room at a time with little fixes and finishes but everything is so close and I’m itching to have it all done. I still have to pinch myself every day to believe we are finally living here and our little dream has become a reality. This summer was such a blur with all our traveling and working on the house and then, it was move-in day. The first day of school was our first night in the house and it was crazy. I had this idea in my mind that we would move in during the summer and I would have weeks to settle in and get the house in order before school started. If you don’t know, I am a kindergarten teacher so the first day of school for me is a little more complicated. My husband and I laugh about it now and we know we’ll never forget our first night in the house.

The kitchen has to be my favorite spot in the house. I know it sounds crazy but I have teared up a couple of times cooking dinner in this pretty space while watching my kids play in the living room or do homework at the dining table. In our old house, the kitchen wall separated it from the living room and I was always in the kitchen so I really ended up feeling disconnected from whatever was going on with the kids in the evenings while I was cooking and then cleaning up after dinner. Because of this experience, I knew from the beginning that I wanted an open concept living room, kitchen and dining area. Now that the kiddos are a little bit older (It’s been a full year now since we sold our house) they end up in the kitchen with me too! My daughter has become my little sous chef, chopping and stirring along with me almost every night.

I thought it would be fun to show some of the progress shots to give a little before and after idea of the process and I tagged a few sources below as well.

I had to show you all the drawers!!! I opted for basically all drawers in this kitchen and I’m so glad I did. The larger ones here are what we use in place of a pantry. All our dry goods are here in these huge drawers and it’s plenty of room.

Hi There- I so love your space! You’ve made a small space look like all anyone could ever need or ask for! I’m curious what appliances you have in the island? And what type of fridge you have to complete the kitchen? We’re in the beginning phase of designing a house and want to stay small. Thanks for the inspiration!

I did research for a while last year to find out w I did research for a while last year to find out which chickens lay these beautiful chocolate brown eggs. I finally discovered that the Marans are the best breed to get. I have Black Marans but they come in a variety including Cuckoo, Silver Cuckoo, Gold Cuckoo, Black Copper, Blue Copper, Splash Copper, Wheaten, Black-Tailed Buff, White, Black, Blue, Splash, Birchen and Columbian.

If you’re thinking of getting chicks this spring and you want some beautiful chocolate brown eggs in the mix I highly recommend! They’re a joy sparker for sure!
I added a little gallery wall over the weekend. I’ve never actually had any wall space to do something like this before in our little house. We just either had doors or windows on all the little walls 😂 And can you see the baseboards! When your husband is doing things himself and already works two busy jobs things just go slower. But we’re saving money and it’s getting done little by little.

I love the artwork I added from the big kids here. Scroll through to see them close up. Warren did the sketch of the fish and Amelia did the embroidered bicycle 🫶🏻
It’s a cold and story first day of February and It’s a cold and story first day of February and this morning the whole property was covered in a dense fog. A nice way to start off the cozy month of February if you ask me!

I’ll just be over here lighting all of my favorite candles in every room. It’s making it smell so good in the house.

These are my favorite candles for ao many reasons!
Nontoxic, 80 hours of burn time, they burn all the way down (they don’t make that hollow cylinder like some candles make down the middle ya know?), lead free cotton wicks, 100% natural soy wax from domestically grown soy beans, premium fragrance oils that won’t give you a headache and aren’t too strong, paraben, paraffin, dye, phthalate and cruelty free.

Just so many reasons to enjoy these candles in your home!

Comment “candles” and I’ll send you a link to them with my discount code!
I found these pretty blue floral plates a while ba I found these pretty blue floral plates a while back and knew exactly where I wanted to hang them. I had never hung a plate before and wanted to do the least damage to my newly painted walls. When I found these hanging discs made in England I bought them right away. I was so excited to try them and they ended up being so easy!

All you do is wet them which activates a glue on the back. Then, adhere them to the back of your plate and let them dry overnight. Once they dry they’re ready to be hung up! If you ever decide you don’t want them hung anymore, just wet the back again and the glue will get released as it softens.

Comment “plate hangers” below and I’ll send you a link to these discs along with a pretty collection of blue plates!
